MYX December 2001 launch party in Old City, Philadelphia a big success.
PHILADELPHIA PA. December 18, 2001. - a new Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization entitled MYX: Multicultural Youth eXchange, launched itself into the public eye on Thursday, December 13, 2001, by hosting a party in Old City.
Among the more than 150 attendees were educators from New Jersey,
Pennsylvania and Maryland, Old City business owners, and local artists and friends. Don Smith, Citizens' Scholarship Fund of America Board Member, and
Jennifer Braxton, Communications Assistant for the School District of
Philadelphia, were among the noted party guests.
The launch party, designed to start a general buzz about MYX and to thank
all the people who have donated their time to the organization, went with
great success due to the efforts of many people.
The new MYX logo, designed and donated by graphic artist, Tim Song, was unveiled at the party. CAOZ, an Icelandic interactive design company, created an animated version of Song's logo that was projected throughout the evening.
Additional signage for the event was donated by Silicon Gallery, and the evening was documented by Robert Hakalski of Visual Machinery, and local videographer, Jacques Altounian.
During the party, MYX announced its premier initiative, the first annual MYX
Student Conference on Global Tolerance and Friendship, which will take place in Philadelphia in October 2002.
Immediately following was a fundraising raffle. A generous selection of gifts was donated by ISHUS, Culture Quest, I-SITE, Este Hart, Lucy's Hat Shop, SoMa Lounge, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Scarlett Alley, Walnut Street Theatre, Wilma Theatre, InterAct Theatre Company and the Arden Theatre Company.
A Middle-Eastern buffet was provided by Cafe Rx, and beverages were donated by Flying Fish Brewery and Old City Coffee. Luke Varga of the Pyramid Club donated time to tend bar.
"Considering the time of year, with holiday parties all over the city, we had a very successful turn-out," said MYX director Josette Bonafino. "There was an amazing willingness to get involved, from business people and educators alike."
Formed in direct response to the tragedies of September 11, MYX facilitates cross-cultural communication among youth around the world through technology and the arts, to promote global tolerance.
